In what is becoming an Evergreen Audubon tradition, our Saturday, September 13, 2025 Annual Nestbox Build once again surpassed previous builds! Our crack team of woodworkers cut parts for 90 chickadee/nuthatch boxes, 65 bluebird boxes, 20 Flicker boxes, and 30 Robin platforms, for a potential total of 205 boxes. These parts were then prepped and finalized in a one-day blitz on Saturday August 23, when our chapter members prepped the cut parts for easy assembly. Then on Build Day, 50 Evergreen Audubon members answered the call, brought their drills, family members, and most importantly their enthusiasm and energy to make new homes for our local birds. As a result, you, our volunteers assembled at least 175-190 boxes. The uncertainty is because of nestbox part kits held in reserve for ENC programming, and the inevitable loss of parts due to splitting and cracking when building.
The build was held on the porch of the ENC because of the threat of rain, but we’re happy to report that the rain held off and, despite the somewhat close quarters on the porch, the building went off smoothly. Families assembled boxes that they purchased and took home, members worked in teams to build boxes for our upcoming sale, and it all happened in a whirlwind five hours! And of course, thanks to all of you who helped on nestbox build Day:

Build Day would not happen without the dedicated efforts of so many wonderful Evergreen Audubon members and friends. We also are grateful to all who helped get the parts ready on August 23: Candace Ballantyne, Ruth Belleville, Ruth Bledsoe, Kate Condon, Ann Dodson, Linda Englehart, Andrea Furlong, Barbara Jean Gard, Joe Gurrieri, Kristina Gurrieri, Hannah Gurrieri, Jane Locke, Kathy Madison, Dave Owens, Tracey Pond, Claire Roberts, Carmon Slater, and Lisa Wald.
A special shout out to Pete, Durfee, Connie St. Clair, Kate Condon, Kathy Madison, Andrea Furlong, Margo Constable, Kim & Andrew Hamilton, Lisa Wald, Chuck & Carol Burdick, Tom Ryon, and Lisa Wald. These folks went over and above and we appreciate their commitment!
Now that we have our nestboxes built, start thinking about nestbox sales! Our first sales opportunity is Evergreen’s Alternative Gift Fair, held Saturday, November 8th and Sunday, November 9th, 2025, at Evergreen Lutheran Church, 5980 County Hwy 73, Evergreen, CO. Besides nestboxes, we will be selling all kinds of great gifts for the holiday season. Stay tuned for your opportunity to volunteer at the sale.
