From the Director

Normally at this time, I would be writing about how we are getting ready to wrap-up our season at the Nature Center. This year, however, we are at the start of a new chapter for the Evergreen Nature Center (ENC) and our year-round “season” is just beginning!

Over the past few months, our board and numerous volunteers have put hundreds of hours into the new Nature Center space – we have moved truckloads of supplies/exhibits, torn down a wall, ripped up carpet, finished the discovered hardwood floors, painted inside and outside, planted native plants, and so much more. It has been an incredible effort and I cannot wait to finally open!

If you haven’t already, mark your calendar for this Saturday, September 9 from 10 am – 4 pm and come visit us on opening day! There will be activities for the entire family and plenty to explore at the new ENC. We look forward to seeing you!

Fall hours for the Nature Center will be Saturdays and Sundays, 10 am – 4 pm starting Sunday, September 10th.

Volunteers needed!

ENC Visitor Assistants!

We are looking for volunteers to greet folks at the NEW Evergreen Nature Center! You do not need to be a naturalist or know anything about our flora and fauna to help us out — you just have to have the desire to learn. Our trained staff and seasoned Visitor Assistants will share their knowledge with you and gradually get you up to speed. Whether you are a returning Visitor Assistant or a brand new volunteer, email me to schedule your first shift for on-site training at our new location.

We are looking forward to starting our new season of after-school programs in October! We need a few volunteers to support our staff in all three of our after-school programs this fall. Volunteers interact with small groups of students and support the lesson plan each week. It is fun and rewarding, and you do not have to commit to being there every week. Please send me an email if you are interested.

  • Wilmot Elementary: Tuesdays, October 3 – November 14, 2:30-5:00pm
  • Marshdale Elementary: Wednesdays, October 4 – November 15, 2:30-4:15pm
  • Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen: Thursdays, October 5 – November 16, 3:00-5:30pm

Wildlife Watch at Evergreen Lake

Wildlife Watch logo

We are getting ready for our fall season of Wildlife Watch and would love to have you join our awesome team of volunteers! Wildlife Watch Team volunteers spend time outdoors at Evergreen Lake, engaging with and educating visitors about local wildlife and human/ wildlife conflicts. Volunteers model best practices for recreation around wildlife and use the nature center’s traveling exhibits to teach visitors to the Lake about wildlife safely without stressing the animals.

The Wildlife Watch Team is a joint effort of Denver Parks and Recreation; Evergreen Audubon; and Wild Aware.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you! My e-mail is: ExecutiveDirector@EvergreenAudubon.org
