Presentation Details
Grasslands are part of the prairies-to peaks geomorphology of our Colorado Front Range landscape. Grasslands, and their preservation, are critical to many migratory and resident species that we see and hear when we bird the grassland ecosystems just east of our Evergreen world, areas like Weld County and Rocky Mountain Arsenal.
We will have a marvelous opportunity to learn more about the research and outreach undertaken by scientists to preserve and enhance existing Plains grasslands when we host Rachel Belouin, Southern Plains Program Manager for Bird Conservancy of the Rockies at our May 2024 Evergreen Audubon Chapter meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Evergreen Church of the Transfiguration and virtually via Zoom. Please note the new day and time for our Chapter Meetings!
Doors open at 6:00 pm, and you will want to arrive early to get yourself a great seat for this presentation, to catch up with your fellow Audubon Chapter members, pick up the odd cookie or two, and to learn about all the great events and opportunities you can participate in with Evergreen Audubon.
Rachel will share how compatible uses create habitat and resilience on our Great Plains. Rachel works with private landowners (farmers and ranchers) and other partners to help engage best practices for working lands to ensure grasslands stay in grass and to enhance wildlife habitat, especially for avian species. She will also share how Bird Conservancy of the Rockies approaches this unique partnership between beef and birds.
