Red-headed Woodpecker (c) Bill Schmoker

All ages and abilities welcome!  Join Chuck Aid for our Fourth-Saturday Bird Walk on July 23, from 7:30 to 1:00 PM.  For this outing we will be visiting Wigwam Creek, just west of Deckers.  The day will be spent driving to a variety of locations within the area decimated by 140,000-acre Hayman Fire in 2002.  There are places that the fire jumped creating island habitats, and shrubs and grasses are making a comeback.  It will be a hundred years before there will be cone-bearing trees again in this area, but the burned snags provide good habitat for some birds, specifically Red-headed and Lewis’s Woodpeckers.

Lewis’s Woodpecker (c) Mick Thompson

Bring water, a snack, lunch, and rain gear.  Meet at the Cheesman Canyon Fishing Access Trailhead parking lot at 7:30 AM – details will be sent to registrants.

These walks are for Evergreen Audubon members and their guests. Non-members won’t be turned away but will be encouraged to join Evergreen Audubon.  You must register here to attend this event.  If you are registering for more than one person, please enter each person separately.  This event is filled when we have twelve registrants.  If you attempt to register and the event is full, please email me at birdmon@evergreenaudubon.org, and I will put you on my waitlist.

Thanks!  Chuck Aid, Director of Bird Monitoring
