Kathy Madison, Vice-President

Kathy Madison’s love of the outdoors and her enthusiasm for working with people make a good match for the Evergreen Audubon board. She loves to hike, and was out walking around Evergreen Lake back in 2009 when she ran across the Evergreen Nature Center. Kathy has been working as a Nature Center visitor assistant ever since and joined the Evergreen Audubon board of directors in January of 2012.

Kathy’s background is in math and computer science—first programming, then instructing others on the use of software, and ultimately technical sales and marketing. She grew up outside of Chicago and in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Bethany College near Pittsburgh. During her college summers, she taught sailing in Culver, Indiana, teaching teenagers how to sail everything from a windsurfer to a square rigger. Her first professional job was at the Naval Air Development Center in Pennsylvania, where she worked on the navigational software for the presidential helicopter, among other things.

Her career, along with her husband’s, took them to Amherst, Massachusetts; Newport and Corvallis, Oregon; Moab, Utah; then Grand Junction and finally ending up in Evergreen.

In her personal life, Kathy loves creating quilts that veer into fabric art. She loves to travel for fun, cook, and entertain. – initially written by Debbie Marshall and adapted by Kathy Madison
