The 26th annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a global four-day event, being held this year from Friday, February 17, through Monday, February 20, 2023. Each checklist submitted during the GBBC helps researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology learn more about how birds are doing around the world, and how to protect them. Last year, 384,641 participants from 192 countries submitted their bird observations online, creating one of the largest instantaneous snapshots of global bird populations ever recorded – over 20 million birds representing 7,099 species.
