I am so excited to welcome Mac McIntosh as Evergreen Audubon’s new Environmental Educator. Mac will work to increase our program offerings at the Evergreen Nature Center, expand our after-school programs and summer camps, and bolster our curriculum. We are thrilled to have Mac on our growing team!
Mac is incredibly excited to be joining the Evergreen Audubon team. She was born and raised in the Midwest but spent many road trips throughout college falling in love with the west, specifically Colorado and Utah. After graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Animal Ecology and minor in Forestry, she spent some time learning policy of place and terrestrial ecology in Alaska. Shortly after coming back down to the lower 48 and following her sense of adventure, she moved to Colorado to be closer to more outdoor activities and job opportunities.
In the last 5 years since becoming a Colorado resident, she’s taken advantage of all of the local parks and forests. As an avid hiker and dog mom to an active husky, one of her favorite ways to spend her free time is out on the trail. Before moving to Evergreen, many of those trails happened to be in the surrounding areas. After spending time in the town and seeing what a beautiful and welcoming place it was, Mac and her longtime partner made a goal to move to Evergreen. They made that dream a reality in 2022. As a trained ecologist and forester, Mac enjoys being able to pack some snacks, water, and her dog, and be in the middle of a forest in less than 5 minutes. Evergreen has been a blessing and she still feels like she has many trails left to explore. In the rest of her free time Mac creates embroidery art that reflects the beautiful spaces where we get to recreate, and volunteers as a wildlife care specialist and education coordinator at a wildlife rehabilitation hospital.
Mac’s love of nature is what makes her excited to be joining the Evergreen Audubon team as an Environmental Educator. She has a passion for sharing the natural world with others, both on the macro and micro scales, from mountainscapes to tiny individual lichens. One of her joys of teaching is watching someone explore something they may have never seen before, and watching their face light up as they learn. You can often find her saying ‘You’re never too old to learn something new about nature’.
Welcome aboard, Mac!
