Sold Out May 20 – Bird Walk to Walden and Sawhill Ponds

There are no upcoming dates for this event.

All ages and abilities welcome!  Join Ed Furlong for our Third-Saturday Bird Walk on Saturday May 20, 2023 from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM. May is an outstanding time to visit Walden and Sawhill Ponds, part of Boulder County Parks. This complex of more than two dozen ponds, wetlands, and water-loving cottonwoods and shrubs, clustered along Boulder Creek, provides outstanding birding at this time of year.

Waterfowl are particularly prevalent,

and the intermixed prairie and riparian plant communities support an abundance of raptors and other field and forest birds. We will spend our morning walking and birding the trails along the perimeter of the ponds, as well as the scanning adjacent trees and grasslands.  If you have a spotting scope, bring it along for great views across the ponds.

Plan to bring water, a snack, and dress for the occasion; there are several miles of level, maintained trails along the ponds, so comfortable footwear and a day or fanny pack will be handy as we will be away from our vehicles for most of the morning.

We will meet at the Bergen Park Park-and-Ride at 6:30 AM, or you can make arrangements to meet us at the Walden Ponds Cottonwood Marsh Parking Lot at 7:30 AM.  Once I have a list

of registrants, I’ll be in touch to provide more details and clarify our driving arrangements.

These walks are for Evergreen Audubon members and their guests. Non-members won’t be turned away but will be encouraged to join Evergreen Audubon.  You must register here to attend this event.  If you are registering for more than one person, please enter each person separately.  This event is filled when we have 12 registrants but know that one or two people often cancel.  If you attempt to register and the event is full, please email me at chapterprograms@evergreenaudubon.org, and I will put you on my waitlist.

Thanks!
