Chatfield State Park surrounds the large reservoir built at the confluence of the South Platte River, Deer Creek, and Plum Creek.  The lake can be very good for waterfowl and shorebirds, while the extensive cottonwood gallery forests can have lots of small landbirds.   We’ll do a fair amount of walking visiting a variety of locations along Plum Creek and near the Plum Creek Delta.

One of our favorite bird walks is an early morning visit to the Chatfield Banding Station, where we study birds up close and personal, then take our new found knowledge into the field to identify our spring migrant birds in the ripartian habitat of Chatfield Reservoir. This event, happening on May 9, 2025, is limited to 14 registrants so don’t delay! Sign up and get out into the field with Evergreen Audubon!
