Approximately thirty intrepid souls attended the chilly 2022 Dawn Chorus at Evergreen Lake on Sunday, May 1. It may have been a bit cold initially, but it was a clear, calm morning with a beautiful sunrise and warm comradery. There were many highlights to the morning, including three species of ducks, a Spotted Sandpiper, an Osprey, two adult Bald Eagles, a Say’s Phoebe, three swallow species, some Western Bluebirds, and a couple of Brewer’s Blackbirds. Birds of special note were a Wilson’s Snipe, which many folks got great looks at, and a beautiful Savannah Sparrow with exceptionally bright yellow lores (that just about knocked my socks off). Thank you to Rachel Hutchinson, Linda Englehart, and Holly and Chris Marr, who got there early to set up and start the coffee. Also, thank you to everyone who brought breakfast goodies – we had an amazing spread of treats, both sweet and savory. It was especially nice to see some members we hadn’t seen for a while and we were delighted to welcome a few new friends to the fold.
