Are you an aspiring bird-watcher, but don’t know where to start?

This event is for you!

Join Evergreen Audubon and the Mountain Area Land Trust for an opportunity to discover the birds that call South Park home. All are welcome whether you’re brand-new to the world of birding, or you already bird on the regular! These workshops will provide opportunities to engage with other birders of all levels and to become familiar with the interactive ‘eBird’ app. Together, we’ll collect meaningful data for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and make Park County a birding hotspot!

We are offering two identical workshops on different dates to allow flexibility with your schedule. Both workshops will begin at Sacramento Creek Ranch and end at Pennsylvania Mountain Natural Area – two MALT-owned properties that provide unique habitats for birds!

The workshop starts at 8:30 am, so it is recommended that you arrive a bit early to get parked and settled.

The address for Sacramento Creek Ranch is 2234 Busch Run, Fairplay, CO 80440.

What to Expect:

  • No prior bird knowledge is needed! These workshops aim to provide a baseline set of skills and provide you with some helpful tools to identify birds.
  • The first half of the workshop will be focused on establishing bird ID basics; the second half of the workshop will be hiking around the two properties and putting our new skills to use!
  • The pace will be fairly relaxed during the hike – the goal will be practicing our identification skills and the use of identification tools (i.e. the eBird app, binoculars, field guides, etc.)

What to Bring:

  • Smartphone to download Cornell’s eBird app
  • Comfortable hiking shoes
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Hiking poles (optional)
  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Daypack
  • Binoculars (if you have them – Evergreen Audubon will have some pairs available to borrow)

This event is FREE, but registration is required.

Please choose which workshop date you are able to attend and register below to save your spot!
